Emily ends up dying at the age of seventeen from a gunshot to her head. Later on, Chris finds that there is a missing bullet in his dad’s gun.

Plain truth, the story revolves around Katie Fisher and later Ellie Hathaway. 

The story is based on a small town of Paradise, Pennsylvania, in Lancaster County widely known for its landscape views and sceneries and lifestyle. The beautiful calmness was shattered when an infant was found dead in a barn of an Amish farmer. Upon investigations and enquiries, there were two major disclosures that came forward.

Born on May 19, 1966, in Nesconset, New York on Long Island. She now lives with her husband and her three children in New Hampshire. She belonged to a non-practising Jewish family. Most importantly, both her mom and grandmother were teachers. While growing up she realized her fondness for reading and writing and created her first story at the age of 5 years old The Lobster Which Misunderstood.

Early Life 

Picoult was born in Nesconset, New York, on Long Island and has one younger brother. She graduated from Smithtown High School East in June, 1983. She has described her family as “non-practicing Jewish”. Picoult wrote her first story at age five, titled “The Lobster Which Misunderstood”. Picoult’s mother and grandmother were both teachers, and she says that their influence on her was very important


Jodi Picoult is an alumnus of Princeton University, graduated in 1987 with A.B. in English for which she completed a 320-page long thesis titled “Development”. 

She has a master’s degree from Harvard University.

She has received two Doctor of Letters in education from Dartmouth College in 2010

and University of New Haven in 2012.


While in college she had already published two short stories in Seventeen magazine.

After graduation she edited textbooks, taught eight grade English and a variety of other jobs.

In 2016, Picoult was invited to be Princeton’s Class Day Speaker before commencement.
